Hayton Primary CareTelehealth

Real care from wherever you are —
when it makes sense.

Idaho residents can see Dr. Hayton by video or phone. Two visit types — acute care for straightforward concerns, and primary care delivered virtually when it’s clinically appropriate.

Idaho Residents Acute Care Virtual Primary Care Statewide

Not every visit needs to be in person.

Telehealth works well for the right problems. A urinary tract symptom doesn’t require a waiting room. A medication adjustment doesn’t require a drive across town. When a video or phone visit is clinically appropriate, it’s often faster and more convenient — and for many concerns, a sound alternative to coming in. When it isn’t the right fit, we’ll tell you and redirect you to in-person care.

This practice offers two distinct telehealth options: true acute care for episodic concerns, and primary care delivered virtually when the clinical situation allows. You can establish care, manage ongoing conditions, and follow up with Dr. Hayton — all without necessarily coming into the office every time.

Acute care and virtual primary care — not the same thing.

The distinction matters. Acute telehealth is for episodic concerns you want handled quickly. Virtual primary care is the full primary care relationship — ongoing, longitudinal, and appropriate for a wide range of concerns including establishing care for the first time.

Episodic & One-Time Concerns

Acute Telehealth

For straightforward problems where telehealth can provide timely care without an urgent care visit. You don’t need to be an established patient — any Idaho resident can use this option.

Commonly treated
  • Upper respiratory illness and cough
  • Sore throat (selected cases)
  • Sinus symptoms and seasonal allergies
  • Urinary tract symptoms (uncomplicated)
  • Minor skin concerns and rashes
  • Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
  • Mild gastrointestinal illness
  • Minor follow-up visits
  • Short-term medication refill bridging

Not sure if it qualifies? Call first. We’ll tell you whether a telehealth visit is appropriate or if you need to come in.

Ongoing Primary Care

Virtual Primary Care

Primary care delivered by telehealth when a physical exam isn’t required. This includes establishing care, managing chronic conditions, reviewing results, and coordinating ongoing treatment — available throughout Idaho.

Available for
  • Chronic disease follow-up (hypertension, diabetes, thyroid)
  • Lab and imaging result review
  • Medication management and adjustments
  • Preventive counseling
  • Weight management check-ins
  • Review of outside records and specialist input
  • CCM monthly check-ins (Medicare patients)
  • Mental health follow-up (anxiety, depression, ADHD)

Requires in-person evaluation: Chest pain, shortness of breath, neurologic symptoms, and severe abdominal pain cannot be managed via telehealth.

Simple to use, no special software required.

Telehealth visits at this practice are designed to be straightforward. You don’t need to download anything or create an account in a new system.

Step 1

Schedule your visit

Book online or call us directly. Let us know you’d like a telehealth appointment and briefly describe your concern. We’ll confirm it’s appropriate for a virtual visit before you’re scheduled.

Step 2

Join from your device

You’ll receive instructions for joining your visit before your appointment. Telehealth is integrated into our practice management system and is secure. A smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera and microphone is all you need.

Step 3

See Dr. Hayton directly

Telehealth visits are with Dr. Hayton, not a rotating on-call provider. You’ll get the same direct physician contact as an in-person visit, with any follow-up care coordinated from there.

Telehealth has real limits. We’ll always be direct about them.

Some concerns require a physical exam, lab work, or imaging that can’t happen over a screen. When that’s the case, we’ll tell you and direct you appropriately — not work around it.

  • Concerns requiring a physical exam (chest pain, abdominal pain, significant injury)
  • Lab work, imaging, or procedures
  • Conditions that have worsened or don’t improve as expected
  • Anything that would be unsafe to manage without an in-person evaluation

When we’ll redirect you

  • To an in-person visit if your concern requires examination
  • To urgent care if the issue is time-sensitive but not emergent
  • To the emergency room for anything that can’t wait
  • To a specialist if the concern is outside the scope of primary care

Common questions

No. Telehealth is available to both new and established patients. Acute telehealth is open to any Idaho resident. Virtual primary care — including establishing care for the first time — is available when a physical exam isn’t clinically required. If your situation does need an in-person visit, we’ll let you know when you call to schedule.
A smartphone, tablet, or computer with a camera, microphone, and internet connection. No downloads or app installs required — you’ll receive a secure link before your appointment that opens directly in your browser. A quiet, private location is recommended so you can speak freely.
Yes, for many conditions. Antibiotics, antivirals, and many other medications can be prescribed via telehealth when clinically appropriate. Some medications require an in-person evaluation before they can be prescribed — if that applies to your situation, we’ll tell you and arrange a visit.
Most plans cover telehealth visits at the same rate as in-person visits. Medicare covers telehealth for established patients in most circumstances. Commercial plans vary — call your insurer or call us and we can help check. Self-pay rates for telehealth visits are available on request.
Yes. Telehealth is available to patients physically located in Idaho at the time of service. Dr. Hayton is licensed in Idaho, so the visit must occur while you’re within the state — even if you’re temporarily outside of Boise.
We’ll tell you during or after the telehealth visit and help coordinate the next step. If it can wait, we’ll schedule an in-person visit. If it’s urgent, we’ll direct you to urgent care or the emergency room. You won’t be left without a clear next step.
Yes. Monthly Chronic Care Management check-ins for Medicare patients can be conducted by video or phone. These are a core part of the CCM program and are structured to keep Dr. Hayton current on your condition between in-person visits.
